WATCH: My Signature Talk "It's Never Too Late" Now LIVE On TEDx
My signature talk It’s Never Too Late is now live on TEDx. Over 14K people have viewed it. In the talk I share details about my journey in media as well as personal setbacks that occurred behind-the-scenes. More importantly, I share tips on how YOU can make a comeback after a setback.
In the talk I’m transparent about my setbacks. Specifically my divorce 10 years ago. My daughter Jalin is on the left in this pic. I had her at 21 as a college student. She’s been with me through every setback. As a mom, it’s embarrassing for your kids to see you struggle time and time again. Through divorce, car repossessions, rejection and evictions, it was just not the example I wanted to set for her. And quite honestly, I was too cute and too intelligent to be going through all that drama!
But in this pic she’s right by my side assisting me at an iconic moment, giving a TEDx talk at Emory University about not giving up. She’s seen me struggle, now she’s witnessing the opposite.
It typically takes TED about 3 months to release a talk after it's done. But due to Rona, it took 7 months. Just in time for my book to be completed. Look at Gawd!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Quite honestly, that week was so busy for me. I created the slides a week prior and didn't have time to fully rehearse as the date approached. As you can see, Jason the TEDx director, was going over final details up until the moment I hit the stage. I was the opening speaker, so I didn’t even have time to read over my notes when I arrived at 8am. I even asked him to move me to a different time slot. But Jason was like, “No. Your topic is strong and we want it to set the mood for the rest of the conference.” What you see when I'm speaking is soley off the dome. I lived everything I spoke. So I knew what I was talking about. It was truly a day in my career I’ll never forget.
